How to Have a Better Smile in 2018

Happy 2018! The beginning of the year is one of the most common times to stop and reflect on ourselves and consider how we can be better in the year ahead.

In fact, more than half of the New Year’s resolutions made every year are focused on health and self improvement. With popular resolutions like “exercise more” also come resolutions like “reduce stress” – while different, both of these resolutions focus on a better lifestyle and level of health.

That’s why focusing on your smile in the new year is such a wonderful opportunity. First, your smile is the first thing most people notice about you. Second, your smile can connect to many other wellness concerns you have, including diet, stress, and self esteem. And finally, helping your smile is a resolution you can easily keep.

There are five different ways we can encourage you to have a better smile this year. Which idea could make the biggest difference for you?

Commit to a Better Dental Hygiene Routine

One of the best ways to stick to a routine is to do something small, each day. Knowing that you only have to take a small portion of time to do it makes your goal more attainable.

That’s why better, basic hygiene can make a huge impact when done regularly. Many of our patients floss infrequently (and, we know – sometimes you never floss). Now is the time to turn around that habit.

Flossing can help remove built-up food, bacteria, and plaque that can wear away on your teeth. These particles, when not removed, can deteriorate your tooth’s enamel and increase the number of cavities you have.

Plus, flossing helps protect your gums. When the areas between your teeth and gum are cleaned, it improves gum health and reduces the risks of gum disease and swelling. If you are not a regular flosser, your gums may be a little tender when you start. Floss gently, and swish cold water around your mouth to help with any areas that hurt.

By flossing just once per day – at the end of the day, after meals – for less than five minutes, you can improve your dental health, your breath, and how your mouth feels. You’ll also begin to remove plaque from your teeth, which will make your dental appointments faster and easier!

Along with flossing, you must also brush twice per day. Freshen up after meals with quick brushes or with mouthwash. Take the time to brush up and feel fresh will help you feel confident all day long.

Make Your Dental Appointments Now

As the year gets underway, we all become busy. Now that it is on your mind, call us to make your dental appointments for the year!

Did you know that dental appointments should occur twice per year, six months apart? These appointments allow us to check in with you, remove plaque, identify areas for repair, and offer our advice on how to care for your teeth over the next six months.

These regular cleanings reduce the risk of developing cavities, having tooth pain, or needing more in-depth dental procedures.

Straighten Teeth

If you have a less-than-perfect smile, what is holding you back? Thanks to so many advancements in orthodontic technologies, getting a straight smile has been easier than ever.

A hesitation for many adults in getting traditional braces is that they are visible and can interfere with your lifestyle. Today, there are plenty of other options to get you the straight smile you have always wanted.

One solution we offer is Invisalign. As a clear, removable aligner, Invisalign shapes your teeth over time to give you the perfect smile you have always wanted. Low maintenance and virtually invisible, Invisalign is a popular choice among many teenagers and adults. Ask Dr. Moore on your next visit if you are a good candidate for Invisalign!

Along with Invisalign, we offer plenty of other cosmetic dentistry services that can improve the look, feel, and function of your smile. From porcelain veneers to a full smile makeover, there are plenty of options we can discuss.

Get a Brighter, Whiter Smile

While there are many teeth whitening solutions available in stores, these products are not very effective or long-lasting. Plus, the expense for them can add up.

In our office, we offer a one-appointment teeth whitening treatment with Zoom! Teeth Whitening. This treatment can make your teeth up to 8 shades whiter in just one visit.

If you would rather whiten your teeth on your own time, you can also get a teeth whitening tray from Dr. Moore. Our teeth whitening trays are highly effective, and we can help you with any teeth sensitivity you may get from whitening.
